CORFU. The Mayor of Central Corfu and Diapontia Islands will be at the headquarters of the European Parliament over the next two days.

The Mayor left this morning to take part in the European Week of Regions and Cities (EWRC).

This afternoon Ms. Ydraiou will take part in a workshop 'Cohesion policy for a more social Europe: Regions and Cities inclusive for all'. The events will be preceded by meetings with EU officials for new Mayors to understand the European practicalities and the potential for networking and funding for local authorities.

Ms. Ydraiou will meet with MEP Anna-Michelle Asimakopoulou, Vice-President of the European Parliament's Committee on International Trade. At the meeting she will have the opportunity to discuss funding and other opportunities for the Municipality with European Commission officials and representatives of other European organisations involved in funding programmes.

Her next trip, as was announced at the Municipal Council meeting, will be to the World Travel Market in London in early November.

"It is true that we don't like doing what we opposed when we were the opposition party, but this year we didn't have the time to plan what we would have liked due to financial and bureaucratic procedures," the Mayor told Enimerosi.

"Next year we will have a complete plan and a Tourist Promotion Management Organisation - as is right and proper for our citizens. This year I will go to London for just two days, having arranged two official meetings. The first is with the CEO of Jet2Holidays, which is the biggest tourist company following the collapse of Thomas Cook - so as you can understand, it is the main player in the UK market so we must quickly develop relations with it.

The second meeting is with a representative from a large production company. I believe that Corfu needs to invest in the field of TV and film production as it is basically free promotion on a large scale globally. We need to exploit this and develop it even more,"
said Ms. Ydraiou.
