CORFU. The new Central Corfu Mayor has instructed her colleagues to target immediate needs and to go ahead methodically, speedily and efficiently.

The Municipal 'machine' is working full out to fulfil one of the new Mayor's main promises - to improve people's daily lives.

The new Mayor knows full well that although people get excited when they hear about large-scale projects with plenty of funding, what they want - justifiably - is an improvement in their daily lives.

This can only happen with small and simple yet essential steps taken by the Municipal 'machine'.

Meropi Ydraiou has instructed her colleagues to target immediate needs and to go ahead methodically, speedily and efficiently.

Most of the work being done is to deal with problems but emphasis is also being placed on improving the appearance of the town - which the Mayor had also promised to do.

Municipal crews are busy at work dealing with one problem after the other.

Amongst the works being carried out are the road surfacing in Potamos from the bridge to the main road, filling potholes in town, replacing the lighting at Mantouki basketball court, painting Kinopiastes school and more.

The new Mayor of Central Corfu and the Diapontia Islands Meropi Ydraiou knows that she has a lot of work ahead of her and it looks like she has rolled up her sleeves right from the word go. Not only for the big, long-term unsolved problems that plague Corfu but also for those others that the public has been complaining that nobody cares about.

It will be interesting to see how quickly Meropi Ydraiou can freshen things up in Corfu and, of course, how she will be able to restore public morale. We shall see....
