ATHENS. The new Minister of the Interior Takis Theodorikakos asked Mayor Kostas Nikolouzos to do something immediately to remove the rubbish from the roads.
He said that Corfu's international image also reflects on Greece itself.
In a telephone conversation with Mr. Nikolouzos yesterday Mr. Theodorikakos asked him to do everything possible to remove the rubbish from the island's roads.
According to sources, the Minister said that "There shouldn't be rubbish anywhere in Greece let alone on the beautiful island of Corfu," and another telephone call was arranged for Tuesday so that the Mayor could update Mr. Theodorikakos on developments.
The Minister also spoke with the incoming Central Corfu Mayor Meropi Ydraiou at the weekend on the same subject as well as with the President of Corfu Hoteliers' Association Haralambos Voulgaris and the Minister for Tourism Haris Theoharis.
