BORAS (SWEDEN). 18-year-old Spyridoula Karidi won the Gold Medal in the triple jump at the European Athletics U20 Championships with a jump of 14m.
Spyridoula Karidi will be bringing back a Gold Medal to Greece after her 14m triple jump in Boras, Sweden.
An emotional moment - Spyridoula is hugged by the top Corfu coach Pavlos Skordilis!
It was all over after the first jump.
With a jump of 14 metres (-2.4) - a new Greek Under-20 national record - in her first attempt, the young Corfu athlete coached by Pavlos Skordilis left the other competitors with everything to do.
Her next two jumps were 13.67 and 13.76 - both also better than her previous personal best of 13.64m. She jumped 13.57 in her fourth attempt, left the fifth and then 13.60 in the final jump.
She is now third in the Under-20 world rankings for 2019 behind the Cuban Yuliana Perez and Aleksandra Nacheva from Bulgaria, both with 14.13m. Nacheva won at the World U20 Championships in Tampere but in Boras she had to settle for Silver with a jump of 13.81.
