412 driving violations in Corfu over the Easter period

CORFU. Speeding, driving under the influence and not using seat belts or helmets were the most common violations.
Traffic Police carried out rigorous checks over the Easter period (19/4 - 29/4) in Corfu, Lefkada, Zakynthos and Cephalonia.
Extra police teams carried out checks for dangerous violations such as speeding, driving under the influence, illegal overtaking etc. and dangerous behaviour that could lead to road accidents.
- There were 91 police teams
- 2,429 vehicles were checked
- 645 violations of the Highway code were confirmed - 412 in Corfu, 140 in Zakynthos, 59 in Lefkada and 34 in Cephalonia.
The main violations were as follows:
- 27 for driving under the influence
- 70 for speeding
- 18 for using a mobile phone whilst driving
- 13 for driving on the wrong side of the road
- 11 for running red lights
- 2 for illegal overtaking
- 27 for not using seat belts
- 31 for not using helmets
- 22 for MOT violations
