CORFU. Late on Saturday evening firefighters were able to extinguish the fire in Santa on Pantokrator - the third in a week.
12 fire engines and 30 firefighters along with water trucks from the Civil Protection service fought the fire, which burnt 30 stremma of forest land. The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Fire Service although the Regional Fire Chief Andreas Rizos told Start TV (local Corfu channel) that the repeat incidents in the same area lead to suspicions of arson.
The Fire Service had to deal with fires on several fronts in Agrafi, Nymphes and in South Corfu, all of which were brought under control.
