CORFU. Following the Lefkimmi residents΄ demonstration to protest against the possible licensing of the Lefkimmi landfill.
During the protest gathering insults and slurs were heard and the Regional Governor, who was clearly irritated, gave his response in a press release.
"Regarding today's protest outside the Ionian Islands Regional Offices by a small number of residents against the operation of the Lefkimmi residue landfill we wish to state the following:
The Regional Governor does not respond to threats and is not afraid of insults and bullying. The Regional Governor has been elected by the people of the Ionian Islands and is responsible for whatever is in the best interests of the citizens - public health, local economy and general well-being in the region.
We are and will continue to be ardent defenders of dialogue, the exchange of views and exhaustive consultations. These, however, require the good will of both sides and this is not indicated by serving an extrajudiciary document.
We would like to make it known to everyone yet again, to those who belatedly wish to evade their own responsibilities and pass them on to the Regional Administration and to those think they will prevail through acts of violence that the Regional Governor does not respond to threats. He will act as he is obliged to by his duty, the law and his responsibility for the future of the region - in this case Corfu."
