CORFU. If Lefkimmi residue landfill is licensed.

A 17-page extrajudicial document was served on the Ionian Islands Regional Governor Theodoros Galiatsatos yesterday signed by the President of Lefkimmi Cultural & Environmental Society Spyros Pandis. The document listed all the reasons why the Governor shouldn't grant a licence for Lefkimmi residue landfill.

In the document Lefkimmi protestors refer to violations of the regulations in the temporary permit including environmental pollution, depositing waste bales away from the special membrane, violation of the given limits and exceeding the amount of waste allowed (10,000 instead of 8,000 tons), lack of documentation of the amounts transferred.

The Lefkimmi Association demands that the Decentralised Authority rescinds its approval of the environmental conditions for the temporary operation of the facility given in June and that the Regional Administration doesn't grant a licence for the operation of the residue landfill.

it requests that Mr. Galiatsatos imposes the proper penalties on the Municipality of Corfu and SYDISA (Solid Waste Management Association) otherwise "there is knowledge and intention, in other words, intention to violate the law which means full criminal liability for any offences and civil liability for any damages to persons."

The extrajudicial document was served on:

1. Decentralised Administration for Peloponnese, Western Greec and the Ionian Islands.
2. Dionysios Panayiotopoulos, General Director, Environmental & Planning Policies, Decentralised Administration for Peloponnese, Western Greec and the Ionian Islands.
3. Ionian Islands Regional Administration.
