National Police Chief confirms that riot police (MAT) will be leaving Lefkimmi

Chief Andrikopoulos gave the confirmation to the Board of the Hellenic Federation of Police Employees (POASY) at a meeting today where the promise of the Minister for Civil Protection Olga Gerovasili to withdraw the police from Lefkimmi as requested by the Federation was discussed.

Regarding the recent order regarding voluntary transfers of police to Corfu, the Chief stressed that this had nothing to do with securing the Lefkimmi facility but was aimed at  reinforcing the police presence on the island in general.

Prior to the meeting Corfu Police Personnel Union had sent the document in which the Ionian Islands Regional Governor explains why the Regional Environmental Department hadn't granted a licence to South Corfu residue landfill.
