CORFU. Two other accomplices are still being sought.
Two men aged 29 and 34 were arrested early on Tuesday (8/1) morning for a series of thefts in Corfu.
Felony charges for theft were brought against them and two other accomplices who are still being sought.
The two men were caught on Tuesday after an investigation into thefts and burglaries in different areas of Corfu over the previous 24 hours had identified them plus two other accomplices as being responsible for the organized crimes.
They were found to be responsible for a total of 11 cases of theft and burglary including the following:
- Burglary of a business in Kanoni on Tuesday 8th in which they stole tobacco products and money to the value of 1,500 Euros as well as another two cases of theft on the same day from a patisserie and a cafe from which they stole confectionery and drinks.
- Theft of a car - again on Tuesday 8th - valued at 13,000 Euros from a car hire company as well as burglary of the company's office from which they stole a mobile phone and a GPS gadget worth 450 Euros.
- Three attempted burglaries at a shop and two filling stations in different areas of Corfu early on Tuesday morning.
From the investigation it was discovered that the two accomplices who are still at large were involved in three other cases of theft in South Corfu - a car hire company, a plumber's and another shop - where a mobile phone and 700 Euros in cash was stolen.
The residences of the two men were searched in the presence of a judicial officer and a car which they used for their activities was confiscated along with other items connected to the thefts.
They were interrogated by the police and their involvement in other similar cases is being looked into. They were then taken to appear before the Corfu Prosecutor.
