Municipal Council votes on limiting the presence of riot police (MAT) in Lefkimmi

CORFU. The Council accepted the request from Lefkimmi residents at Monday΄s turbulent meeting to hold a vote.
Yet again Lefkimmi residents made their presence felt at the Council meeting and in the end the Council decided with a majority vote to submit a request to Corfu Police to limit their presence in order that residents can access their properties - a necessity for them during the present olive harvesting period.
The Council's proposal read as follows: "The Municipal Council would like to request from the Police Authorities that they limit their presence at the landfill in order that residents are not prevented from carrying out their daily activities."
The head of the 'Laiki Sispirosi' party Babis Haralambous objected on the grounds that it did not fulfil the demand that all the riot police should leave. The secretary of Lefkimmi Cultural Society also said that their demand is that the MAT leave Lefkimmi and they won't go back on that.
