CORFU. The main topics of discussion were the economy and tourism.
The Mayor of Avlona Dritan Leli met with the Mayor of Corfu Kostas Nikolouzos at the Old Town Hall on Saturday evening.
The main topics of discussion were the economy and tourism. Mr. Leli talked about the increase in tourism in Avlona and the important private investments in that field. Mr Nikolouzos referred to the record increase in tourism to Corfu this year but also to the problems in infrastructure and lack of funding for the local authority as a result of the 10-year economic crisis. He made special reference to the Integrated Spatial Investment and how it will help Corfu Town.
Both Mayors stressed that Corfu and Avlona, which are part of the Ionian-Adriatic region, both face common problems and challenges. "The sea that separates us can bring us together," said Mr. Leli, pointing out that Corfu, with its long-term experience, could help Avlona in the field of tourism.
Finally, the Mayor of Corfu informed the Mayor of Avlona of the 2nd International Tourism Conference in Corfu 19-21 October and invited him to attend.
