Statement from Deputy Mayor for Tourism Vassilis Kavadias

For the first time, Corfu has a strong strategy for the promotion and development of tourism.

Our basic strategic aim is to promote Corfu as an internationally recognized cultural destination.

To achieve this aim we have secured funding of 71.4m Euros.

For the tourist periods (March-October) for 2018-28 we have planned dozens of activities and events involving the arts and sport along with international campaigns to promote them.

Some examples from 2018:

- Bloggers, journalists and TV crews from all over the world visited Corfu.
- Following our efforts, a Warner Bros Germany reality show was filmed in Corfu and the island will be seen on the German RTL channel for 60 days. This will be repeated next year.
- We organized the 1st Corfu International Culinary Festival with the participation of renowned chefs from three countries.
- From 19-21 October we will be holding the 2nd Tourist Forum with the participation of FedHatta as well as several Greek and international tourism specialists.
- At the end of October, in collaboration with the Russian Embassy in Athens, we will be organizing a Russian Culinary Week.
- We participated in the most important international tourism exhibitions, promoting Corfu to dozens of international tourist companies and have established our presence at these events with our own stand.

Finally, I would like to say that the local authority has established a sincere and fruitful collaboration with all the local tourist businesses and organizations so that we can decide together how to go forward.
