CORFU. The search continues
According to the Corfu branch of the Hellenic Rescue Team (EOD), the search through the night for the missing swimmer in South Corfu proved fruitless. Members of the EOD sea team took part in the search.
Following a call from the Port Authority late last night, a Nansen rescue boat was immediately launched and, following directions from the control centre, searched the coastal area between Petriti and Lefkimmi. Their work was made more difficult by the shallow waters and the large number of fishing nets. The search for the woman is still continuing.
Corfu Port Authority was informed on Tuesday evening of the swimmer - whose identity is still unknown - in the area between Petriti and Lefkimmi.
The Search and Rescue Coordination Centre immediately sent two patrol boats and a rescue boat which were assisted by 12 private boats, two individual divers and a land vehicle - but the missing woman has still not been found.
