Firefighters remain at Rachtades - small flare-ups during the night

CORFU. Firefighters are remaining in the Rachtades area - scene of yesterday΄s fire.
The fire has essentially been completely extinguished but the area is being cleared to prevent any further flare-ups before the Fire Service officially declare that it has been extinguished.
Corfu Fire Chief Andreas Rizos told Enimerosi that there were a few flare-ups during the night, mainly amongst olive trees. Despite the efficient way in which it was tackled, the fire destroyed 100 stremma (24.7 acres) of forest and 50 stremma (12.35 acres) of agricultural land. The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Fire Service.
Corfu Municipal Press Office issued the following statement: During yesterday's fire in the districts of Rachtades, Agios Giorgios Pagon and Velonades, Esperion, Corfu Municipal Civil Protection Service supported the efforts of the Fire Service with 3 water trucks, 6 fire engines, 16 personnel and 2 members of the Volunteer Rescue Team.
