CORFU. In a philanthropic gesture the Corfu Port Authority Board donated two amphibious wheelchairs to the Regional Special needs Association in Corfu.
The wheelchairs are for people with mobility problems, allowing them to go into the sea and swim. Corfu now has 24 amphibious wheelchairs, which are located at beaches around the island.
Deputy Mayor for Social Welfare Andreas Skoupouras said that over the last few years Corfu has become an attractive destination for tourists with special needs and the number of beaches with these facilities has made it No. 1 in Greece and high up on the worldwide list.
The Corfu Port Authority President Spyros Stefanidis expressed his great pleasure at being able to make this kind of contribution on behalf of the Authority. This is the latest in a series of donations, such as the artificial kidney machine at the hospital, equipment for the Corfu Clinic and 10 units of Braille equipment for the Blind Association.
