CORFU. Amongst the items confiscated were - 470g cocaine, phials of anabolic substances, 4 cars, 3 motorbikes and 9,350 Euros.
Corfu Drugs Squad was able to break up a criminal organization which had been systematically trafficking cocaine in Corfu.
Over several months the Drugs Squad had been able to collect information and evidence regarding the way the gang members operated. They were able to establish that the organization was made of at least 6 members - 5 Greeks, aged between 33 and 45, and one non-Greek female, aged 37 - and there were at least 28 regular cocaine users.
Felony charges were brought against them - setting up a criminal organization for the purpose of trafficking illegal narcotic substances.
The leader of the organization was a 35-year-old who had been arrested in Corfu on Friday 20th July with 470g cocaine, anabolic substance and cash in his possession.
In a police operation which covered different areas of Corfu on Wednesday, two more members were arrested. The two men, aged 37 and 45, were 'deputy leaders' of the organization.
Structure and operation of the organization
The 35-year-old Greek was the leader of the organization and the 37-year-old and 45-year-old were his deputy 'executives'. The other three members of the organization - who are still being sought - dealt with the distribution of the cocaine.
The 35-year-old obtained the cocaine and directed its distribution by the other members to specific users. During the investigation the following items were found in the possession of the leader and the two deputies who were arrested on Wednesday morning:
- Plastic packages with a total of 470g cocaine
- 29 phials with anabolic substances
- 9,350 Euros
- Small amounts of unprocessed cannabis
- Digital scales
- 1 mobile phone
- 3 cars
- 3 motorbikes
- 1 public-use passenger vehicle
The Drugs Squad is conducting the interrogation and the arrested men will be taken to appear before the Corfu Prosecutor.
