CORFU. All was quiet today in the area which showed clear signs of last night΄s clashes. Things are expected to flare up again when the first trucks appear with the waste bales from Temploni.
There were seven arrests in total following the clashes between residents and riot police on Tuesday morning and night. Two men aged 36 and 29 were arrested in the morning and four men aged 20, 22, 32 and 66 plus a woman aged 23 were arrested last night.
The two men arrested yesterday morning will be taken to appear before the Prosecutor today, Wednesday.
According to police sources, things got more dangerous last night as there were attacks with Molotov cocktails and flares were thrown directly at the police! There was also stone throwing which resulted in one of the police vans getting its windows smashed.
On Wednesday things are much quieter in the area which has clear signs of last night's clashes. Things are expected to flare up again when the first trucks appear with the waste bales from Temploni. Yesterday's reports of this happening were not confirmed.
