CORFU. The Deputy Mayor for Korission and Melireon Al. Aspiotis has resigned in protest at the presence of the riot police in Lefkimmi.
Mr. Aspiotis has also resigned as councillor. His intentions were clear after yesterday's council meeting when he left in protest as soon as it was known that the riot police had arrived in Corfu.
In the letter of resignation which he posted on the website of the local TV channel Start he said: "Personally and ideologically I cannot agree with these repressive measures".
