CORFU. The police were called and the driver of the bulldozer disappeared.
There was a tense situation in Temploni again on Friday morning.
As members of Temploni Cultural Society approached the landfill, they saw a bulldozer clearing the land and uprooting trees in the land that the Charity Board had recently loaned to the Municipality in order to extend the area available for dumping and waste management.
Because permission hasn't been granted for the land to be used for this purpose and because the bulldozer didn't have any kind of markings - not even a registration plate - Magda Papanikolopoulou and Lambrini Kolagi from the Society called the police. In the meantime, the bulldozer driver disappeared - most likely because he didn't want to be arrested.
Society President Magda Papanikolopoulou told Enimerosi, "Permission hasn't been granted for this kind of use of the land and as far as I know a report hasn't been submitted. From this point on, whatever happens has to be done according to the law."
