CORFU. Land given as free loan from May 19 to October 19.
The board of managers of Corfu Old Peoples' Home and Poorhouse decided on May 18 to lend 4.6 stremma (1.14 acres) of land in Temploni (Koerou) free of charge to Corfu Municipality.
According to law, a local authority organization or public entity can allow free use of their property by another public entity for emergency reasons.
The decision was taken following a proposal presented by the Mayor and President of the board Kostas Nikolouzos and states the following:
"In order to safeguard public health there is an immediate need to lend the 4,617 sq.m. piece of land in Koerou, Temploni to the Corfu Municipality to be used temporarily for the installation and operation of a waste baler or any other means of waste management deemed necessary by the responsible authorities, as well as for the storage of waste. This need is especially urgent in order to safeguard public health and the environment, both of which are at risk from the non-collection of the refuse which has piled up in many areas of the island and in Corfu Town."
According to the decision, the free loan of the land will be for the period 19 May to 19 October. The Municipality is obliged to return the property at the end of the period and during its use is obliged to comply with all environmental regulations.
