Young Corfu athlete wins 3 medals and sets new Greek national record

The Balkan Under-18 Championships took place in Istanbul on Saturday 9th June.

Young Corfu athlete Spyridoula Karydi took part in three events at the Balkan Under-18 Championships on Saturday 9th June and won medals in all three. She also broke the national Greek record in the long jump which had stood for 15 years.

In the triple jump the 17-year-old athlete came second with 12.89m behind the Bulgarian Aleksanda Nacheva with 13.61m. She also came second in the long jump with 6.21m - breaking the national girls' record set by Askitopoulou in 2003 - behind the Bulgarian Aleksanda Nacheva again, with 6.24m.

The young Corfu athlete, who started training with Pavlos Skordilis 10 months ago, now holds two national girls' records, along with 13.11m in the triple jump.

Karydi also took part in the 4 x 100m relay and took third place with the Greek team - adding a bronze medal to her two silvers.
