CORFU. Residents are calling for the Corfu Prosecutor to do an on-the-spot inspection so that the law can be applied.
Seven days after Temploni residents decided to take action to block access to vehicles coming to illegally dump refuse at the facility's third unit, they have published a statement with the what the Cleansing Services have been doing accompanied by a series of photos.
The statement:
"On our seventh day of action to uphold the law and prevent vehicles from dumping refuse, the head of the facility management has created a fourth pile of rubbish at the baling unit - using bales that we have paid for to support it and destroying the packaging.
Yet again, we denounce this unacceptable behaviour by the management which is dangerous both for the environment and public health. We call upon the Corfu Prosecutor to come and inspect the site even at this late stage.
We call upon all the authorities and organizations to publically state their position on this major problem of waste management that our island is facing and would like to make clear that from this point on we hold them jointly responsible for whatever happens."
