The mistake that created misunderstanding between Nikolouzos and Ydraiou

Corfu Mayor

CORFU. Kostas Nikolouzos: All of this could have been avoided if Ms Ydraiou had just phoned me.

"It's not enough just to send an e-mail - it has to be sent to the right address," said the Corfu Mayor regarding the matter of whether or not Meropi Ydraiou had sent him a message. One wrong letter in the electronic address was enough for the e-mail to be considered to have been sent...but not to be received.

In a new statement Kostas Nikolouzos said, "It would have been funny if it weren't such a serious matter. At a time when we have to deal with the problem of refuse collection (I as outgoing Mayor and Ms Ydraiou as incoming Mayor), we're getting caught up in an exchange of statements by letter - and not by my choice. Following my statement that I hadn't received any communication from her, a photo was published showing the message on the computer from which it was 'sent'. The only problem is - as could be seen in the photo - that the recipient's address was wrong. Because it is not enough to just send an e-mail but to send it to the correct address the message never arrived at my office. This could all have been avoided with a direct phone call to me from Ms Ydraiou and there would have no need for the media to get involved in a meaningless dispute. It does show once again, however, that we should not get involved in trying to create good or bad impressions."
