Increased traffic measures for 25th March celebration period
Traffic measures to ensure road safety and the prevention of accidents throughout the country.
The Greek Police will be stepping up its operations with increased traffic measures for 25th March throughout the country to ensure road safety and the prevention of accidents.
Measures include:
- Policing of sections of the road network according to the particular traffic conditions in each area.
- Enhanced police presence and policing of points where there has been a greater occurrence of road accidents.
- Increased measures at the entrance and exit points of large urban areas, where there is a greater volume of traffic.
- Traffic police at main crossroads to prevent traffic congestion.
- Special units to watch out for road behaviour likely to lead to an accident, such as speeding, drink-driving, illegal or dangerous overtaking, using a mobile phone whilst driving etc.
- Increased measures at public transport facilities such as airports, ports and stations.
- Special traffic regulations at locations where celebratory events are being held.
- Traffic police presence at toll booths throughout the country to facilitate traffic flow and give information and advice to drivers and passengers.
- Dissemination of information to the public via the Press Office regarding areas where there may be traffic problems.
All police personnel and services will be on standby during this period, especially Traffic Police. All necessary police cars, motorcycles and other vehicles will be available to ensure that the national road network is effectively policed.
Police requests and advice to drivers:
- Get information about weather and road conditions.
- Be extremely careful whilst driving.
- Follow the Highway Code.
- Drive at low speeds in order to have better control of the vehicle.
- Always follow traffic police orders or suggestions.
Proper behaviour on the road and following the Highway Code are basic requirements for road safety and the prevention of traffic accidents.
