Kavos: A ghost town in the bare winter

Kavos

CORFU. The pictures on the internet in summer are shocking. But so are the winter photos, only for a different reason - Kavos ‘in hibernation’ reminds one of a ghost town.

Located about 45km south of Corfu Town, it is an extremely popular tourist spots - acting as a magnet to young low-to-middle income Britons with its beaches, crazy night-life and everything associated with that. It is never far from the public eye in the Greek and foreign media.

In Kavos no one sleeps before 6 or 7 o’clock in the morning and it is considered the equivalent in Corfu of Malia in Crete. The pictures on the internet in summer are shocking. However, the winter photos and their images of what is to all intents a ghost town are also shocking.

The photos here of empty roads reveal the underlying ‘scars’ – potholes, subsidence and erosion. Kavos is also well-known for the number of accidents caused by the dreadful condition of its roads and the lack of proper signage – with the resulting complaints from tourists.
