Sewage, traffic and cleanliness top concerns for South Corfu businesses
LEFKIMMI. Memorandum on Kavos’ problems submitted to the Corfu Chamber of Commerce – Infrastructure, seasonality and unfair competition in focus.
Infrastructure problems, particularly sewage, traffic and cleanliness, dominated a meeting between representatives of the Corfu Chamber of Commerce and business owners from South Corfu on Friday 9 October. The meeting was held at Lefkimmi 2nd Primary School in Riglades.
Particular significance was attached to the submission of a detailed memorandum by business owners in Kavos, setting out their positions and requests for addressing the problems facing the tourist area.
The discussion also addressed unfair competition arising from the uncontrolled activities of street vendors, as well as the need to adapt funding programme eligibility criteria to the specific circumstances of island businesses and those operating seasonally.
The Chamber announced the creation of a specialised business support office (Help Desk) and provided an update on the submission of a technical proposal for the organisation’s digital upgrade.
A ten-hour online seminar programme, organised in cooperation with the Ionian University, was also presented. The programme is due to begin in November and will cover topics including the use of artificial intelligence in business.
Those attending the meeting included the Chamber’s First Vice-President, Christos Lavranos; Secretary-General Vassilis Vassilakis; Financial Supervisor Yiannis Kontostanos; and Board member Spyros Katechis.
The Chamber’s administration stated that it would continue its meetings with business owners in the island’s outlying areas and the Diapontia Islands.
