CORFU. Corfu SYRIZA MP, Fotini Vaki, met with the president and managing director of Corfu Port Authority, Spyros Stefanidis, on Friday 5th January to discuss current issues.

Ms Vaki asked Mr. Stefanidis about the problem of seaweed deposits at several ‘orphan’ harbours, such as Astrakeri, where fishermen are unable to work. The managing director told her that the cleaning of the basins at ‘orphan’ harbours was being carried out piecemeal because of the high costs. Nevertheless, Astrakeri harbour was included in the first group of small harbours to be cleaned in 2018.

He confirmed that the second stage of the work at Lefkimmi port – dredging and removing seaweed – will be completed by spring 2018. 60% of the work was completed in 2017 as planned. Mr. Stefanidis told Ms. Vaki that the work on the roundabout at the port and the pier for cruise ships will also be completed in 2018.
