Municipal Cleaning and Recycling Service to operate 24 hours a day, including Sundays

The announcement states that the 24-hour operation applies to all the personnel in the following departments: collection of refuse and recyclable materials, cleaning of public buildings and spaces, maintenance of Cleaning and Recycling Service vehicles and by extension, weekday morning operations. This is due to increased demands and the specific operational conditions.

The Council listed the following as being the specific operational conditions:

• Tourism – Between April and October there are large numbers of visitors, which means there is a need for continuous refuse collection and cleaning.
• The high density of buildings in the town, which makes the smooth operation of the collection and cleaning service difficult due to heavy traffic and parking during peak hours.
• The specific character of the old town, where there are a large number of visitors and a 24-hour cleaning service is therefore necessary.
• The municipality has a lot of scattered communities, many on mountains, with narrow roads which are more accessible at night because of religious and cultural events that may be taking place in the evenings.

The Municipality said that the increased costs are covered in the municipal income and expenditure budget for 2018.
