Late-night incident at Town Hall with fallen tree branch
CORFU. Blue, red and amber emergency lights illuminated Alexandras Avenue around midnight, creating an unexpected scene for fans returning from watching the World Cup semi-final. The cause was a large tree branch that had fallen onto the DEDDIE power lines.
Blue, red and amber flashing lights lit up the night, surprising people making their way home along Alexandras Avenue after watching the World Cup semi-final. Just after midnight on Wednesday, a large branch snapped off an aging tree on the south side of Marasleio Town Hall and landed on DEDDIE's overhead power lines, directly above the kiosk.

The threat of a short circuit led to the immediate mobilisation of the authorities. Police temporarily blocked Alexandras Avenue near the Technical Chamber of Greece, while two fire engines, including a ladder truck, arrived at the scene alongside DEDDIE crews to safely remove the branch and check the power network.

The operation was completed without any problems, and traffic was restored shortly afterwards. No injuries were reported, nor was there any interruption to the electricity supply.
All’s well that ends well. The only thing left behind were a few photographs from yet another incident reminding us that aging trees, especially those located near roads and utility networks, require regular inspections and preventive maintenance.
