Street event to raise awareness for Breastfeeding Week
CORFU. Breastfeeding Week is celebrated every year in Greece on November 1-7.
(Central Corfu Municipality) On the occasion of Breastfeeding Week, which takes place in Greece from November 1st to November 7th, the Corfu Health Centre, the Department of Public Health Protection & Promotion, and the Central Corfu and Diapontia Islands Municipal Health Centre are co-organising a street event to raise awareness and encourage breastfeeding. This event will take place in Annunziata Square in Corfu Town on Tuesday, November 5, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
The theme for Breastfeeding Week 2024 is "Closing the Gap: Supporting Breastfeeding for All." The campaign will honour the diversity of breastfeeding mothers in all their variety and throughout their breastfeeding journeys, while also highlighting ways that families, societies, communities and healthcare professionals can support each breastfeeding mother.
The event will include the distribution of informational materials and outreach to the local community about the multiple benefits of breastfeeding, not only for the newborn and mother but also for family well-being. Additionally, there will be information provided about the collaboration between the Municipality of Central Corfu and Diapontia Islands with the Institute of Child Health as part of the pilot implementation of the "AMALTHEA" intervention programme. This programme aims to promote a breastfeeding-friendly culture, fostering a society that supports breastfeeding mothers.
Participants in this initiative include the Corfu General Hospital, the Agios Markos Health Centre, the Corfu Social Health Centre, and the 1st Local Health Unit (TOMY) of Corfu.
