Burning charcoal embers in rubbish bin ignited inside refuse truck in Dassia

CORFU. The swift response of municipal sanitation workers and the Fire Service averted a more serious incident outside a hotel.
There was a serious incident on Saturday night, shortly after 11:00 p.m., in Dassia outside a well-known hotel. Hot charcoal embers that had been discarded in a rubbish bin nearly destroyed a municipal refuse truck.
As sanitation workers were collecting the waste, they noticed smoke coming from inside the vehicle. Thanks to their experience and composure, they immediately stopped the refuse truck and emptied its contents onto the ground to prevent the fire from spreading to the vehicle.
The Fire Service was called to the scene, arrived promptly, and extinguished the fire. An investigation into the incident is underway.
