Voluntary clean-up of Kalafationes wood paths
CORFU. Kalafationes Volunteer Action Group presented for the first time the drone that assists in the prevention of wildfires.
Last Sunday, Kalafationes Volunteer Action Group, the local Cultural Society, Kalafationes Local Community, the Aerial Sports Group (KOAK) and the Trekking and Mountaineering Club, with the assistance of the Hellenic Fire Service and Central Corfu Municipal Civil Protection Service, carried out a clean-up focused on wildfire prevention and improving accessibility to the rural forest area of Kalafationes.
This positive collaboration resulted in an extensive clean-up in a local wooded area. The Kalafationes Volunteer Action Group also presented for the first time the drone they possess, which, in cooperation with the Fire Service and Central Corfu Municipal Civil Protection Service, assists in the task of wildfire prevention, particularly on days of high fire risk.
During the operation, in the presence of the Regional Fire Chief, Nikos Kolovos, and personnel from the Fire Service who provided assistance, as well as representatives from the Municipal Civil Protection Service and Deputy Mayor Haris Yiotis, Mayor Meropi Ydraiou distributed special vests and gloves to the civil protection team of the Local Community.
The Mayor also congratulated the Kalafationes Volunteer Action Group, the Cultural Society, the local community and all participants for their initiative, emphasising that the cooperation of the relevant municipal services is essential in such actions.
