The Ionian Islands Regional Director of Education Petros Aggelopoulos gave clarifications on the issue that has arisen at the Primary School.
Classes have not been held at the school since mid-December due to the teacher's sick leave and the vacant position has not been filled since then by the Ministry of Education.
As Mr. Aggelopoulos explained to Enimerosi, the teacher filed a short sick leave on 16 December. "We were not talking about a gap at the time so that we would ask the Ministry of Education to fill it," he said.
Then the holidays arrived and the teacher, as Mr. Aggelopoulos said, filed a new sick leave on 9 January, which this time creates a gap in the school.
"Following this development, we immediately asked the Ministry of Education to fill the position. Next week we expect the announcement of new recruitment of substitute teachers. We will be claiming a teacher until we receive one," he added. Classes have temporarily stopped at the primary school, while classes at the nursery school continue as normal.
