CORFU. The decision was based on seven reasons.

The Decentralised Administration has decided to stop the operation of the carousel and the games set up by a businessman in the Upper Square near the fountain for Christmas and New Year.

The issue had been discussed at two Town Council meetings, but without any result due to reaction from the opposition parties. Thus, it was finally passed by 17 votes to 13.

The Decentralised Administration is responsible for checking whether the Municipal Authority's decisions are legal. Thus, it declared the decision approved by the Finance Committee on 9 December 2022 invalid.

Seven reasons

The Decentralised Administration's decision was based on seven reasons, including that the meeting was not urgent, the tender process lasted less than 10 days and the lack of a guarantor for the lease as required by law.

Power supply

It is also worth noting that the power supply for the carousel's operation by municipal lighting is questionable, as no permit has been granted so that the Municipality will not be burdened with the cost.

All these days, however, the business seems to be quite profitable and popular among teens, mainly because of the other games aimed at older children.

The question now is whether they will be shut down immediately or whether the time will eventually be shortened through legal procedures, so that this time will pass without any problems and the decision will only be applied after the holidays.
