Central Corfu Municipality announces electric car sharing in Corfu
CORFU. The Central Corfu & Diapontia Islands Municipality made the announcement on the occasion of the World Environment Day.
The Central Corfu & Diapontia Islands Municipality, and especially Corfu Town, is expected to soon take part in electric car sharing, thus contributing to the reduction of the carbon footprint from carbon dioxide emissions produced by vehicles, while also making Corfu Town truly “green”.
The installation – initially in a research stage – of a system and electronic service for the sharing of electric vehicles is very popular in tourist areas abroad (such as in Rome where there are more than 5 different car sharing companies) and is expected to offer significant benefits to the citizens and visitors of our Municipality.
The Central Corfu Municipality made the announcement on the occasion of the 5th ICC City Lab from 14 to 23 June, as well as of the World Environment Day, which is celebrated on 5 June every year, as UN's main event since 1972 to inform the whole world about environmental problems facing humanity.
The Municipality is happy to announce the actions that have taken place and their results and it is hoping that they will contribute to the reduction of the overall environmental footprint of our Municipality, as well as its continuous effort to be in line with the national and European legislation and especially with the “European Green Deal”.
This initiative is part of Central Corfu and Diapontia Islands Municipality's participation in the 100 Intelligent Cities Challenge – ICC and specifically in the following sectors:
- Waste management and circular economy
- Digital governance and digitisation of public services
- Smart and green mobility
- Improvement of energy solutions and efficiency
