CORFU. In view of the invitation for tenders for the Corfu Mega-Yacht Marina project, a teaser has been published by the Hellenic Republic Asset Development Fund (TAIPED), presenting its main characteristics to potential investors.

It should be reminded that last November the CEO of the Hellenic Republic Asset Development Fund (TAIPED) Dimitris Politis visited Corfu and met with Corfu Port Authority board members and officials, where the progress of the preparation of the tender process was discussed.

The study for the Mega-Yacht Marina in Corfu is mature and, according to TAIPED’s planning, the international tender process for the award of the project to a private individual is expected to be announced in 2022.

In a relevant publication, TAIPED lists the advantages that make the investment attractive, as well as its good location to the west of the existing commercial port, adjacent to the cruise ship terminal.

Furthermore:
- It is located next to a town with many tourist attractions,
- It is within a short distance from an international airport (3km away)
- It is located, in terms of navigation, in a particularly interesting area – the Ionian Sea coast.
- It is a 'bridge' between Greek and other Mediterranean destinations, as it is interconnected with national and international ports and high demand areas, including the Ionian Islands, Montenegro, Croatia, South Italy and the Middle East. There are relatively few and only small marinas in the wider Ionian Sea area.

Therefore, there is currently a high demand for marinas where large vessels would be able to anchor and very little supply. Currently, there is no competition. Thus, a high utilisation of the marina berths is expected.

The concept of a Mega-Yacht Marina

According to the announcement in view of the tender process, a study of other successful examples of Mega-Yacht Marinas on the market shows that they usually have the following characteristics:

- The majority of the capacity is dedicated to superyachts and megayachts
- Service available 24/7 and multilingual staff
- Service stations and maintenance services nearby
- Hotels, restaurants and shops within the facilities, which are essential to the business model
- Other entertainment and sports facilities offered (or nearby)
- Near the international airport, with means of transport (private jets, helicopters)

Infrastructure, proposed uses and buildings

The Mega-Yacht Marina will have its own entrance from the public road and its facilities will be located separately from the rest of the port. Proposed uses and buildings include parking spaces, small boat repair facilities, a pumping station and an electricity substation, hotels, bar, shops, supermarket, gym and tennis courts. An administration building, a control tower and a different entrance are also included in the proposed uses.

Basic technical dimensions

- Land area: 39,400 m².
- Backfillings: 19,750 m2
- Length overall (LOA): 140 m
- Depth: >= 5 m
- Lifting and launching of auxiliary vessels only

As TAIPED clarified, this description is a sample presentation, which has been prepared at a given time, according to specific information available at the date of issuance of the document. The issuance of any tender document, once available, will override and replace the specification.
