Dassia property: Regional Council votes in favour of receiving financial rather than land concession
CORFU. The demand for a land concession from the investing company in Dassia (as opposed to financial) was rejected. Leader of the LASY party Babis Haralambous proposed that land be given. A representative of the investing company Stavros Andreadis was present at the meeting.
Five proposals were presented at the Regional Council meeting to discuss planning permission for the new tourist investment in Dassia. With 19 votes the proposal supported by Ms. Kratsa and Mr. Spyrou had the majority and the Council accepted a financial concession from the investing company with the condition that the public road to the beach is maintained, the stream be settled and a concession of 5 stremma be given to the Municipality for common use.
The fact that noone from the Local Authority was present, although they had been invited, caused a bit of a stir and the Regional Governor, who said that she hadn't been properly appraised of the situation, commented on the fact.
The leader of the LASY party Babis Haralambous put forward his proposal in favour of the concession being given in the form of land rather than money in order to satisfy the public needs in the area. Also present at the meeting was Stavros Andreadis on behalf of the company who said that for the land concession it was the company's intention to give the relatively inaccessible and sloping area at the north end of the property.

Spyros Spyrou invoked this fact when he said that he was in favour of a financial concession and his party thus helped to make up the majority and the decision was made.
