Firefighters battle all night with fire in Zakynthos - fire now abating
ZAKYNTHOS. Since first light this morning firefighting planes and helicopters have been dropping water on the flames in the Keri - Agalas area in Zakynthos.

CORFU. Fire broke out just 150 metres from the South Corfu Fire Department.

CORFU. At this time (14:30) the fire which broke out in an area with reeds near Agios Markos has been contained to 15 stremma.

Bastatika fire has been contained and is abating
CORFU. Superhuman efforts from emergency and air firefighters have managed to bring the fire in Bastatika and Neohori near Lefkimmi under control.
Evacuation of Bastatika residents a precautionary measure
CORFU. It seems the fire in Bastatika, near Neohoraki in South Corfu started in a pile of rubbish. By early evening the front was 1km long and the flames were higher than the trees.
Two Canadair planes join fight against Lefkimmi fire
CORFU. Firefighting reinforcements have arrived and there are now (18:18) 25 firefighters, 8 fire engines, 2 Canadair and 2 PZL planes.
Order given for Neohori to be evacuated
CORFU. Firefighting planes have been requested to help fight the fire which is out of control in South Corfu in the same location as last week΄s fire.
Fire Service on standby at Kritika, Lefkimmi
CORFU. Firefighters are on standby in case fire breaks out again. 80 stremma were burnt according to initial estimates.
Fire contained but still burning - evacuation of villages suspended
LEFKIMMI (CORFU). According to Fire Service sources, the order to evacuate the villages of Paliohori and Neohori as a precaution wasn΄t carried out as it wasn΄t considered necessary after all.
