South Corfu: Cleaning and clearing of private land mandatory

The Municipality of South Corfu has issued an announcement regarding the mandatory cleaning of private plots and farmlands for fire protection purposes. The announcement states the following:
"We inform the owners, possessors, usufructuaries, tenants and subtenants of plots, farmlands, and other open spaces located within a community, within a radius of 100 metres from a community, as well as out-of-plan land with buildings, that they are required to proceed with the cleaning and clearing of vegetation (dry grass, thinning of shrubbery, fallen branches, etc.), as well as the removal of flammable and combustible materials, to prevent the risk of fire outbreak and rapid spread, by April 30.
This obligation also includes the periodic and systematic maintenance of these areas with necessary interventions throughout the fire prevention period, which lasts until October 31.
In case of non-compliance, and always in accordance with the applicable legislation, the Municipality is required to impose a fine of 50 cents per square metre, proceed with the cleaning of the area at its own initiative, and charge the responsible parties for the corresponding cleaning costs.
Furthermore, the aforementioned responsible parties are required to submit a relevant compliance declaration in a timely manner, no later than April 30, through the online platform of the National Registry for Preventive Fire Protection Measures for Properties, at the website akatharista.apps.gov.gr.
It should be noted that failure to submit the declaration will result in a fine of 1,000 euros, while strict penalties apply in cases of false declarations.
