Reminder to clean and clear land for fire protection

CORFU. Obligated parties (owners, possessors, usufructuaries) are requested to proceed immediately with the cleaning and clearing of their properties by April 30, 2025.
The Autonomous Department of Civil Protection and Civil Defence of the Municipality of Central Corfu & Diapontia Islands reminds all responsible parties (property owners, possessors, and usufructuaries) within our municipality of their obligation to clean their plots to prevent the outbreak or spread of wildfires, in accordance with the applicable legislation for the 2025 fire protection season.
Holders, possessors, and usufructuaries of plots, agricultural land and other uncovered areas (within communities and urban planning areas, up to 100 metres from the community boundary, as well as properties with buildings outside communities) are responsible for clearing and removing dry grass, branches and other flammable materials to prevent the outbreak or rapid spread of wildfires.
All obligated parties (owners, possessors, usufructuaries) must proceed immediately with the cleaning and clearing of their properties by April 30, 2025. These areas must be maintained clean and cleared periodically throughout the fire protection season (May 1 – October 31).
Additionally, they are required to submit a responsible declaration confirming compliance with this obligation in the National Registry for the Implementation of Preventive Fire Protection Measures, via the online platform of the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection (akatharista.apps.gov.gr), as mandated by law.
Failure to submit the declaration will result in a fine of €1,000, while submitting a false declaration may lead to additional fines and imprisonment of up to two years.
During the 2023-2024 fire protection seasons, the Autonomous Department of Civil Protection and Civil Defence handled numerous citizen requests regarding uncleared private and municipal plots, imposing the prescribed administrative sanctions and fines for a total uncleared area exceeding 1,000 stremma, in accordance with applicable regulations.
Given the stricter legal framework for preventive fire risk reduction measures, and to avoid penalties and fines from the Civil Protection Service, all property owners, possessors, and usufructuaries are strongly urged to comply with the legal requirements.
