Experimental Primary School celebrates World Poetry Day

CORFU. The event included a presentation on the work of Dionysios Solomos, Konstantinos Kavafis, Georgios Seferis, and Odysseas Elytis.
On the occasion of World Poetry Day on March 21, Corfu 'Athenagorio' 4th Experimental Primary School hosted Dr. Styliani Voutsa, a philologist and doctor of the Ionian University, in a special event dedicated to Greek poetry.
The event featured an inspiring presentation on the works of four great modern Greek poets of global significance: Dionysios Solomos, Konstantinos Kavafis, Georgios Seferis and Odysseas Elytis. Dr. Voutsa presented the lives and works of these poets, highlighting not only their literary greatness but also the way their poetry reflects the social, historical and philosophical concerns of their time. Through excerpts from their most significant poems, pupils had the opportunity to engage directly with the style, language and messages conveyed in the works of these outstanding poets.
The event sparked great enthusiasm and emotion among the pupils, who actively participated and not only gained a deeper understanding of the four renowned poets but also expressed their own thoughts and feelings through discussions and creative activities. The verses that were read evoked emotions of admiration, nostalgia, contemplation and introspection, proving that poetry remains a vibrant and timeless medium of expression and reflection.
With great sensitivity, the pupils presented their own poetic creations, inspired by the works of the four poets. This creative approach demonstrated the immediacy of poetry and its enduring influence on both personal and collective expression.
The school extends its heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Voutsa for her presence and valuable contribution to promoting the Greek poetic heritage. This event represents an important moment for the Experimental School, underscoring the significance of literature and the arts in education while fostering a love for reading and the aesthetic cultivation of our pupils.
