CORFU. Corfu Athenagorio 4th Experimental Primary School organised activities to understand the importance and contribution of the Greek language to world culture.

On the occasion of International Greek Language Day, Corfu Athenagorio 4th Experimental Primary School organised activities to understand the importance and contribution of the Greek language to world culture.

Among these, the organisation of discussions with the author Haroula Verigou - Bandiou (pseudonym Zoe Dikteo) - who visited the school to support its goals - on books for children, young people, and adults stands out. Ms. Verigou, simple and approachable, attempted through dialogue and discussion to demonstrate the power of language and the importance of reading books, especially for young children.

The pupils of the upper grades were informed about how she selects the themes of her books, when and how she started writing books, the way of writing and publishing them, etc.

The author, responding to the children's questions, said that books helped her to travel, to escape from any problem, to live in other eras with the heroes, to imagine a better world.

Ms. Verigou, with her sensitivity and directness as a writer, managed, in her wonderful and approachable way, to highlight the importance of the Greek language and how fortunate we should feel that it is our native language.

The children showed such great interest that they themselves renewed their appointment for further discussion and to get answers to their many questions.
