North Corfu Municipality takes part in Albania Overboard swim
CORFU. The event was organised by the Ionian Environment Foundation.
The Municipality of North Corfu participated in the Albania Overboard swimming race on Saturday, September 14, with the Civil Protection vessel EKTORAS YIALOPSOS IMIA 1996. The team was led by Deputy Mayor Spyridoula Kokkali, and on board were also Nikolaos Poulis (Doctor), Giorgos Mavropoulos (Head of Municipal Civil Protection Service), and Dimitra Kokkinori (Nurse from the Municipality's "Help at Home" programme).
The purpose of the municipal crew's presence was to support the event and provide assistance if necessary. Due to bad weather conditions, the originally scheduled route from Examilia in Albania to Agios Stefanos Sinies was not possible. Instead, the race took place along the coastline, from Kouloura to Agios Stefanos.
The event was organised by the Ionian Environment Foundation, with the proceeds going to support the Ionian Dolphin Project and Posidonia, both working to protect marine life. Since 2014, this event has aimed to raise public awareness about the environment. This year, more than 50 people from around the world participated.
