CORFU. For the last week a large tree has been hanging over a wall in Analipsi.

Passers-by and local residents have been wondering when the hollow trunk will be removed before it causes an accident. The supervisor of Corfu Municipal Green Service, Mr. Zaragas, told Enimerosi that they can’t cut it down unless the cars are removed and they have enough space to do the work.

“We put up tapes last week so that people wouldn’t leave their cars there because the workers need plenty of space. Unfortunately, the residents haven’t cooperated – which is something we often come up against when we ask for cars to be removed. We’ve even had cases where we put up signs and people remove them.”

Mr. Zaragas said that he didn’t believe the wall would collapse as the tree is hollow and consequently not very heavy. He stated that the Green Service will put up more signs to make it absolutely clear that cars should be removed and hopefully they will be able to cut down the tree tomorrow.
