CORFU. Mayor Yiannis Kavvadias committed to the immediate start of drilling works at a site that has already received approval, while expressing his full support for the residents’ legitimate request, as water is a public good.

A delegation representing residents from all districts of the community of Chlomos met with South Corfu Mayor Yiannis Kavvadias on Tuesday morning, August 12, at the Town Hall to address the persistent water shortages affecting the area.

During the meeting, the President of the Residents’ Three-Member Committee, Kostas Kavvadias—joined by the President of the Cultural Society and the Community President—presented a resolution signed by local residents. The resolution calls for timely public announcements of water supply schedules, as interruptions have become a daily occurrence, often without warning and lasting for many hours. It also demands a long-term solution to restore and ensure the reliable operation of the water network.

Mayor Kavvadias pledged to begin drilling works immediately at a site that has already received official approval. He also expressed his full support for the residents’ concerns, stressing that water is a public good and that their demands are fair and justified.
