North Corfu Municipality: Extra funding of €65k for Municipal Philharmonic Bands

CORFU. Funding for the Municipal Philharmonic Bands of Avliotes, Karousades and Thinali for new instruments and uniforms. Investment in culture.
Following a proposal by the Mayor of North Corfu, Giorgos Mahimaris, to the Municipal Committee and within the framework of the 2025 budget revision at the Municipal Council meeting on June 30, 2025, the grant to the Municipal Philharmonic Bands of Avliotes, Karousades and Thinali was increased, specifically for the procurement of new uniforms and musical instruments.
This support comes in addition to the regular annual grant, recognising the consistent and vital role of the philharmonic bands as carriers of culture, memory, and collective expression.
Municipal philharmonic bands are cradles of culture, schools of social engagement and sensitivity. They are the sounds that accompany national anniversaries, the joys and sorrows of local communities. They are the first step for many children toward art, teamwork, aesthetics, and creative expression.
At a time when societies are seeking stable foundations for a fresh start after the pandemic, the Municipality of North Corfu remains firmly committed to strengthening cultural and athletic institutions that forge collective memory and inspire new generations. The municipality consciously chooses to support and reinforce both the smooth daily operation of cultural and sports associations and the implementation of their small and large events.
For the Municipality of North Corfu, culture and sports are fundamental components of social development. With planning, care, and dedication, we continue to invest in the people and the values that unite us.
Within this context, two mandolins were delivered to Father Christos Malais, President of the Church Council of the Holy Church of All Saints in Nissaki, and to Nikolaos Michalopoulos, President of the Nissaki community, to support the church’s musical ensemble.
