North Corfu Municipality in Malta for GreenMove Project

CORFU. The event is being organised by the Municipal Council of Siggiewi and has as its central theme: ΄Methodology and Technologies for Sustainable Mobility and Energy Efficiency in Island and Rural Contexts.
(North Corfu Municipality) The Municipality of North Corfu is at the forefront of the European effort for sustainable mobility in rural areas, leading the GreenMove Project — an ambitious programme aimed at improving transportation in Europe’s rural regions.
As part of this initiative, the project's kick-off meeting was held from February 27 to March 2, 2025, at the Almyros Beach Hotel & SPA, bringing together representatives from 16 countries. Funded by the European Commission under the CERV-2024 Network of Towns initiative, GreenMove aims to introduce innovative transport solutions, reduce environmental pollution, and promote the sustainability of rural communities.
The GreenMove Project is progressing dynamically, with the next transnational meeting scheduled for June 10–13, in the picturesque town of Siggiewi, Malta. There, project partners will continue their collaboration with a focus on Innovative Technologies for Sustainable Mobility in Island and Rural Contexts.
The event is being organised by the Municipal Council of Siggiewi and centers on the theme: "Methodology and Technologies for Sustainable Mobility and Energy Efficiency in Island and Rural Contexts."
The meeting will bring together 17 partners from 16 European countries, all committed to advancing sustainable mobility, energy efficiency and democratic values within island and rural communities. Over three days, participants will engage in a variety of activities aimed at promoting knowledge exchange, innovation and collaborative problem-solving.
Event Highlights:
· Workshops and Interactive Sessions:
Participants will attend workshops led by top experts, exploring advanced technologies and innovative methodologies that promote sustainable mobility and energy conservation in island environments. These sessions aim to facilitate practical discussions on implementing smart, eco-friendly mobility solutions tailored to the unique characteristics of islands.
· Presentations and Expert Discussions:
Esteemed representatives from academia, industry and local governance will present successful case studies and emerging trends in sustainable mobility and energy efficiency. These presentations will serve as a foundation for vibrant discussions and idea-sharing among participants.
· Best Practices Seminar:
A key feature of the event will be a dedicated seminar highlighting successful initiatives and best practices from various island communities across Europe. The seminar will encourage dialogue on addressing shared challenges and replicating successful models in other regions, fostering a spirit of cooperation and collective learning.
· Promotion of Democratic Dialogue and European Values:
Throughout the event, special emphasis will be placed on promoting democratic participation, transparency, and the inclusion of all citizens in island communities. The event seeks to strengthen ties between citizens, local authorities, and stakeholders, ensuring that sustainable development strategies are participatory and inclusive.
· Cultural Visits and Island Exploration:
To deepen understanding and appreciation of Malta’s unique cultural and historical heritage, participants will enjoy guided tours to some of Malta’s most iconic sites, including UNESCO World Heritage monuments, historic towns and natural landscapes. These cultural excursions will offer a vivid introduction to EU island communities, highlighting Malta’s rich history, diverse traditions and innovative spirit, offering attendees a fully immersive experience of the island’s best offerings.
This transnational gathering in Malta marks an important milestone in GreenMove’s ongoing efforts to enhance cooperation, share innovative solutions and promote sustainable development that respects and reinforces the unique characteristics of island communities.
