First 10 mandolins for North Corfu Municipal Mandolin Orchestra
CORFU. The melody that unites the sounds of tradition.
The Municipality of North Corfu announces the launch of the North Corfu Municipal Mandolin Orchestra —a musical ensemble centered around the instrument that has, for centuries, accompanied the melodic voices of serenaders. This is a new cultural initiative aimed at highlighting and keeping alive our precious musical tradition.
The North Corfu Municipal Mandolin Orchestra will be a vibrant space for learning, collaboration and cultural expression. Through rehearsals, concerts and participation in local events, it will become a vehicle for cultivating, creating and spreading our musical heritage. We will learn to "play" not only notes, but also stories, emotions and life.
To support this effort, the Municipality has acquired the first 10 mandolins—soulful instruments that will be provided to participants in the orchestra. In this way, both young and older serenaders will have the opportunity to connect with the instrument that has, for centuries, accompanied the melodic voices of choirs in the village squares and the "salsadas" (narrow village lanes) of our land.
The North Corfu Municipal Mandolin Orchestra … will awaken memories and lovingly pass them on to the voices of the new generation.
