21 digital transformation initiatives for Central Corfu Municipality approved
CORFU. The project pertains to the creation of the foundational framework and the acquisition of the necessary expertise for the transformation of the Municipality into a ΄Smart City΄.
Mayor Stefanos Poulimenos announced that 21 digital transformation initiatives for Central Corfu and Diapontia Islands municipal services, with a total budget of €1.6 million, have been approved by the Ministry of Digital Governance and included in the “Digital Transformation 2021–2027” Programme.
According to the announcement by the Municipality of Central Corfu:
"The project concerns the creation of the foundational framework and the acquisition of the necessary expertise for the transformation of the Municipality into a 'Smart City.' The project is co-funded with €1,619,440 from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF).
The application for inclusion was submitted by the Planning Department of the Municipality of Central Corfu and Diapontia Islands in September 2023.
During the evaluation process, from March to October 2024, all necessary actions to support the application were carried out and completed by the same department.
The actions, as outlined in the approved digital transformation plan of the Municipality for the period 2022–2027, include:
- Smart accessibility systems for individuals with mobility challenges
- Smart pedestrian crossings designed to be friendly for people with disabilities
- Smart waste bins
- Organisation of a Mobility Office and management of the municipal vehicle fleet
- Cemetery management system and digitisation of records
- Digital platform for managing vulnerable groups
- Management of sports, cultural and recreational venues (lesson scheduling, parent notifications, competitions, mass sports, etc.)
- Online document circulation system and digital signatures
- Online payment management system (for the Municipality and municipal entities)
- Management of cultural and sports events, including e-ticketing
- Installation of smart air quality monitoring systems within the municipality
- Installation of smart water quality monitoring systems (for drinking water, rivers, lakes, seas, industrial applications, etc.)
- Smart warning systems for handling floods, fires, earthquakes, etc., within the municipality's jurisdiction
- Urban greenery and public space management system
- Digitisation of local cultural heritage (owned and managed by the municipality)
- Online consultation system for budget and technical programmes
- Online consultation system for municipal council regulatory decisions
- Digital management and organisation system for municipal administration and operational capacity
- Comprehensive infrastructure for cybersecurity (network firewalls, endpoint security, etc.) and teleworking system
- Centralised management platform for data collection and smart city functions
- E-invoicing system (for the Municipality and municipal entities)
According to the schedule, the tender process for the actions is expected to begin early next year, aiming to appoint implementation contractors.”
Ydraiou: “Efforts of those who left behind a legacy must be acknowledged”
Former Mayor Meropi Ydraiou posted on social media on Wednesday, December 3, stating:
"Funding was approved for the proposal we submitted as a municipal authority for digital transformation, amounting to €1,619,440!
The programme includes digital platforms and services that will streamline internal workflows within the Municipality, support its employees, and provide faster, more effective service to citizens.
I extend my heartfelt thanks to Deputy Mayor Tzanne, all the Deputy Mayors, my collaborators, and the Planning Department of the Municipality for their partnership and the fruitful progress of our efforts.
